Amherst Police Chief Requests Tasers
AMHERST – At the Town Deliberative session, Police Chief Peter Lyon was asked by Bill Belvin, Ways and Means member to comment on the Chief’s request to purchase tazers for his officers. Mr. Belvin commented that there is $7,200 for five tasers in the police department budget. “Tasers can be deadly," he commented. “They are more than just another piece of equipment.” MORE

Tax Rate Estimate to Increase by $1.22
AMHERST – Souhegan operating budget and warrant article funding the cost of the first year of a professional and support staff agreement on salaries and benefits increases the spending by $598,453 over last year’s default budget of $16,770,070. MORE

Amherst Town and School Elections and Ballots
AMHERST – The polls in Amherst are at the Souhegan High School gymnasium, 412 Boston Post Road. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Parking will be set aside for the handicapped or those who need assistance. Golf carts will be available to transport those needing assistance from the designated parking area to the school.
Parking in the lot between the stadium and the school will be limited to 45 minutes.

New England Spring Flower Show
Tuesday, March 11
AMHERST – Join with the Amherst and Milford Garden Clubs for a welcome breath of Spring as we visit the 2008 New England Spring Flower Show at the Boston Bayside Exposition Center. MORE

Newcomers’ “Out and About” Club
AMHERST – The “Out and About” group, one of Newcomers’ many groups, was formed in the Fall of 2007. The group’s mission is to explore the many artistic and cultural resources primarily of New Hampshire, though trips to Boston are also planned. Some of the previous “outings” have included: Andre Institute of Art, Brookline, NH, New England’s largest outdoor sculpture park, “Christmas in Amherst Village” tour and the Sharon Arts Center’s “60 Annual Members’ Exhibition” in Peterborough. AMHERST – On Saturday, March 22nd, at 12:00pm on the village common there will be an Easter Parade, Egg Hunt and Scavenger Hunt!
The Parade kicks off the fun in front of the Congregational Church.

Souhegan Sabers Grab Bronze at the New England High School Championships.
AMHERST – In their final meet of the season Souhegan had a strong showing at the NE High School Championships at Roger Williams University in Bristol RI Saturday night. Souhegan girl’s 200 Free Relay team of Marissa Soucy, Kelsey Hinrichs, Alyssa Peterson and Mallory Sullivan came in 3rd while the 400 free relay team of Marissa Soucy, Annie Bacher, Kelsey Hinrichs and Mallory Sullivan came in 7th. Kelsey Hinrichs took 8th in the 100 free and 9th in the 50 free and Mallory Sullivan came in 9th in the 100 breast. Coming up from the 12th position in the meet the boys team of Mike Disco, Andy Disco, Kevin Wons and Spencer Davis raced into 3rd place in the 200 Medley Relay and broke the school record for the event.
