Nashua Public Library
Fiddle Music at Nashua Library, March 16
NASHUA – Annalivia, the latest alt-traditional band to emerge from the Boston fiddle-music scene, will perform at the Nashua Public Library on Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m.
The acoustic quartet features the voice of Liz Simmons, a New Hampshire native and protegé of famed Irish singer Karan Casey. Simmons has performed with North Cregg from County Cork, the John Whelan Band, and The Sevens.
Joining her will be fiddler Brendan Carey Block (formerly of the Glengarry Bhoys), guitarist/vocalist Flynn Cohen (who has toured and recorded with John Whelan, Adrienne Young, Aoife Clancy, The Sevens and others), and bassist and banjo picker Stuart Kenney (The Sevens, Wild Asparagus).
Annalivia combines Anglo-Celtic ballad and fiddle traditions with their North American counterparts—Appalachian and Cape Breton music–adding a contemporary flair.
The concert is part of the library’s celebration of Celtic Heritage Month. Other events include “Brittany: Box Beds and Beyond,” a program combining lecture, live music, and participatory dance of Brittany, on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m., and “Slate of Hand,” a slide show about slate art and Welsh quarry landscapes, on Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m.
All programs are free and open to the public. The library is located at 2 Court Street. For more information or directions, call (603) 589-4610 or visit www.nashualibrary.org and click on Events.
